El EXILIO DEL RÍO (work in progress)

In "El exilio del Río" the narrative structure follows the same direction of the flow of the waters of the Tijuana River, which starts in Mexico and crosses the border until it empties into the Pacific Ocean in the United States of America, a journey that is also coincident with the migratory displacement towards that country.

The photographic series shows us a landscape, that as it advances, it changes, from the predominance of nature in the first stretch, passing through the city of Tijuana, until reaching the tension of the border area, after this, already in American territory, to cross the city of San Diego and then return to a natural habitat, that of the wetland, which finally reaches the ocean.

The emphasis of the work is the representation of the landscape and the ecological aspects involved, but above all on the social and humanitarian problems of a group of human beings who for various and unfortunate reasons have had to seek refuge in an absolutely precarious way in the sector of riverbanks channeled in Tijuana. Thus, the situation of these people trapped in this no man's land, can be understood as a kind of sediment left by a society that flows vertiginous on both sides of the border. In this way, their lives and stagnant histories contrast with the freedom of the torrent of the river.

El EXILIO DEL RÍO (trabajo en proceso)

En “El exilio del Río” la estructura narrativa sigue la misma dirección del flujo de las aguas del río Tijuana, que parten en México y cruzan la frontera hasta desembocar en el Océano Pacífico en los Estados Unidos de América, recorrido que es también coincidente con el desplazamiento migratorio hacia ese país.

La serie fotográfica nos muestra un paisaje, que en la medida en que se avanza, va cambiando, desde el predominio de la naturaleza en el primer trecho, pasando por la ciudad de Tijuana, hasta llegar a la tensión de la zona fronteriza, para tras esto, ya en territorio estadounidense, atravesar la ciudad de San Diego y luego volver a un hábitat natural, el del humedal, que finalmente llega al océano.

Los énfasis del trabajo están en la representación del paisaje y los aspectos ecológicos involucrados, pero sobretodo en la problemática social y humanitaria de un grupo de seres humanos que por diversas y lamentables razones han tenido que buscar refugio de forma absolutamente precaria en el sector de las riberas canalizadas del río previo a la frontera. Así, la situación de estas personas atrapadas en esta tierra de nadie, se puede entender como una especie de sedimento dejado por una sociedad que fluye vertiginosa a ambos lados de la frontera. De esta manera, sus vidas e historias estancadas contrastan con la libertad del torrente del río.
